2nd Hand Holiday!

Ahhh, it's that time of year to spread holiday cheer! Times are tough for many, and we may be looking for creative ways to give without draining the funds, am I right?!

I hope to inspire you to shop second-hand to find gifts that speak to the receiver and show the thought that went into the gift. You may not be able to shop second-hand for everyone, and that's fine. Some people are just not into it or may even look down on it, and hey, to each is their own. But for the ones you can, they will appreciate the thought and hunt that went into their gift, and honestly, they will love that you scored a deal too!

Before we get into some holiday giving inspo, I want to encourage us all to take a minute and lean into a gratitude moment. That saying you see online, "if you can tuck a healthy child into bed at night, you have won the lottery," hits right home and puts things in major perspective. Take a moment to be thankful for (here are some ideas) your health, your family, your friends, your working car, and your cozy home. It's easy to feel down when others have more, but water your grass, babe—it's really green and awesome =)

Alright, now for the thrift gift guide:

  1. Collections:

    • Do you have a friend/family member/co-worker who collects or is obsessed with a certain item/thing? Let’s say cats—you have a friend who loves all things cats. Well, then the thrift store will be your jackpot, my friend! Funny cat sweaters, kitschy cat pictures, cat figures—heck, make a crazy cat lady basket, and I bet you will put a big smile on your friend's face.

  2. Signs:

    • Signs, I'm thinking metal signs. I got a street sign for my Dad for his birthday that said Michael Street (his name is Michael). I mean, how cool. He loved it, and it is a great piece for a workshop or decor!

  3. Antique Glassware:

    • Antique glassware—you can find a really cool set at most thrift shops. They are one-of-a-kind and usually quality old pieces. What about the vintage McDonald's cups?! Could be a great funny feel-good fit depending on the person.

  4. Jewelry:

    • Jewelry—oh man, the gems you can find at thrift or really antique spots can be stellar. Look for flashy pins that make a statement or a ring with the letter of their name. Heck, check for patches too—anything that speaks to your friend/family that can add to their vibe is a win. Dress it up with a nice box & tissues or cloth to elevate the gift.

  5. Last & Maybe Least:

    • Items that are new with tags. It's basically new, right? This could be tricky. If a person in your life isn't okay with second-hand, then don't go this route if possible, I guess. Lol, but others may not mind, and it's a brand-new item so score!!

Happy shopping friends!
